Know about the Mehrangarh Fort, Jodhpur

Mehrangarh Fort holds the pride of place in Jodhpur due to its splendid architecture and diverse history associated with it. Considered one of the most formidable and magnificent forts of Rajasthan, Mehrangarh Fort was built by Rao Jodha in the year 1459.


The fort is spread over an area of ​​5 km and is built on a 125 m high hill on the outskirts of Jodhpur city.

There are seven gates, which can be used to enter the Mehrangarh Fort. These 7 gates have been built by different rulers and are built in honor of the victory over the Bikaner and Jaipur armies. 

The fort offers a panoramic view of the city of Jodhpur, which looks like a blue carpet laid at the foot of a hill. Every ruler of Jodhpur has contributed to making this fort. Magnificent palaces can be seen within the fort. The main palaces located in Mehrangarh Fort are Moti Mahal, Phool Mahal, Sheesh Mahal, Janana Dood, Takht Vilas and Jhanki Mahal. Two temples are also located inside the fort - Chamundi Devi Temple and Nagnechiaji Temple, which are dedicated to Goddess Durga and Kuldevi respectively.

There is also a museum within the Mehrangarh Fort, which displays a rich collection of palanquins, musical instruments, royal cradles, costumes, weapons, furniture and paintings.
